3 PROVEN Protektive Pak HAS a conductive buried layer in the order of 10 3 ohms range Protektive Pak Impregnated Corrugated boxes meet the Discharge Shielding required limit and Dissipative Resistance recommendation of ESD Association Packaging standard ANSI/ESD S541 Buried Conductive layer using Silver Electrodes = 9.2 x 10 3 ohms As tested by Steve Fowler Fowler Associates, Inc. 4 PROVEN The Protektive Pak box is superior when testing discharge shielding performance vs. the Coated boxes Energy penetration results (ref ANSI/ESD STM11.31) : Protektive Pak Box = 2.28 nanoJoules Coated Box = 4.23 nanoJoules nanoJoules = measurement of energy perpetration The Protektive Pak box allowed less energy penetration. nan As tested by Steve Fowler Fowler Associates, Inc. 5 PROVEN The Protektive Pak box has the discharge shielding performance equal to a metal-out shielding bag…the Coated box does NOT Energy Penetration: Metal-Out Shielding Bag = 2.97 nanoJoules Protektive Pak = 2.28 nanoJoules The ESD Association in its Packaging ANSI/ESD S541 Standard sets a required limit of less than 50 nanoJoules. 6 PROVEN The Protektive Pak impregnated corrugated box has a dissipative surface which minimizes the levels of energy discharged to an ESD sensitive product making contact with box material. Most ESD Experts state that any surface which an ESD product may contact must be Dissipative NOT Conductive Per ANSI/ESD S541 A.3 Dissipative Material for Intimate Contact, “To avoid rapid discharge to sensitive items, dissipative materials should be used as the layer of packaging that contacts the item.” As tested by: Fowler Associates, Inc. 7 PROVEN Conductive surfaces lead to energetic discharges that may damage ESD sensitive items in all failure models including Charged Device Model (CDM). Protektive Pak Impregnated Corrugated boxes meet discharge shielding requirements of Packaging standard ANSI/ESD S541, and dissipative resistance recommendation 1 x 10 4 to < 1 x 10 11 ohms. 8 Conclusion Protektive Pak impregnated corrugated has a buried shielding layer The Protektive Pak box equals or exceeds the static shielding capabilities of a coated box Protektive Pak box has discharge shielding capabilities equal to a metal-out shielding bag The unique Protektive Pak Dissipative Corrugated Material meets the ANSI/ESD S541 recommendation, avoiding rapid discharge when contacting ESD sensitive items, conductive boxes DO NOT! ANSI/ESD S541 section 7.2.2 Resistance of Dissipative Materials states “A static dissipative material shall have a surface resistance of greater than or equal to 1.0 x 10 4 ohms but less than 1.0 x 10 11 ohms, or a volume resistance of greater than or equal to 1.0 x 10 4 ohms but less than 1.0 x 10 11 ohms. Packaging materials that are in intimate contact with devices should be dissipative.” Protektive Pak is the superior material for ESD Packaging and Material Handling.
