2  Labour Market Information  Definition: information you need to make decisions about your future. It includes information about planning your career, occupational options, types of training and learning opportunities and where to get training.  It also include information about the current labour market environment, as well as trends and forecasts about the future.  For example: labour market information could be information about what types of companies are hiring or downsizing. You can use that information to decide which occupations have good employment prospects now and in the future.  Many sources of labour market information... right info front of you.

8  What can a resume do? Resumes do not secure jobs; they reinforce all other job-search efforts. Good resumes can lead to interviews; poor resume can disqualify otherwise qualified job seekers.

18  Cover letters are an extremely important part of your application package because it creates that all-important first impression of your qualifications. Think of it as an INTRODUCTION!  To be effective:  Original  Get the employer’s attention  Appeal to the employer’s interests and needs  Highlight skills and accomplishments  Explain how your skills meet the employer’s needs  Convince the employer to read your resume and/or application form

19  Format letter properly  Addresses, names, date, salutation, three paragraphs, middle paragraph should be the biggest – minimum 5 sentences, closing, signature, typed name, enclosure – HANDOUT!  Brief and to the point/directed and tailored to job and its duties  Tailor your letter to the requirements of the job  Mention when you are available for interview  Proofread letter carefully
