7 Sketch Map of the World’s Continents and Oceans 1.Take your sheet of copy paper and fold it in half using a hamburger style fold. 2.Fold it in half again, but this time using a hot dog style fold. 3.Fold it in half one more time using a hamburger fold. 4.Open the paper and orient it so there are four columns and two rows. 5.Label the columns like an excel spreadsheet with small letters near the top (A-D). 6.Label the rows with small numbers along the left hand side (1-2 with 1 at the top).

8 Sketch Map of the World’s Continents and Oceans 7.Start at the bottom left corner of cell A2. Go up about 1 cm (hint: 1 cm = about the width of your finger) and draw a line parallel to the bottom edge across A2 through D2. Label it Antarctica. 8.Draw a line parallel to Antarctica from the C2/D2 fold to the edge of the paper cutting cell D2 in half. About a cm below the D1/D2 fold draw another parallel line to Antarctica. Connect the two new parallel lines along the C2/D2 fold creating a hot dog style rectangle. Label it Australia. 9.About 2 cm down from the top of the paper in cell D1 about 1 cm in from the edge of the paper, draw a line down to the fold, but do not touch or cross the fold between cells D1 and D2. Draw across and into cell C1 about 2 cm. Draw up and back to the right to complete the box. Label the box Asia.

9 Sketch Map of the World’s Continents and Oceans 10.Draw a hot dog style rectangle starting half a cm into cell B1 from the fold separating B1 and C1. It should be even with the top of Asia’s box and be about half as long (tall) as Asia. This rectangle should share a side with Asia (they should touch). It should be about half the length of Asia. Label it Europe. 11.Drop down a cm from the lower left hand side of Europe’s box and draw something that looks like a seven. It starts in cell B1, almost touches Asia in cell C1, drops down to a little over halfway in cell C2. The left hand side of the seven should stay in cell C2. It should not touch or cross the fold for B2 and C2. The left hand side will head up towards and cross into cell C1 before heading left to complete the seven. Label it Africa. 12.Create a box (square) that starts 1-2 cm above the center of A1. This will be the upper left-hand corner of the box we are creating. It will cross over the A1 and B1 fold by about 2 cm. The box should be 4 cm by 4 cm and be 2 cm above the fold marking the equator. Label it North America.

10 Sketch Map of the World’s Continents and Oceans 13.Create a vertical hot dog style rectangle that takes up part of cell B2. It should be 2 cm above Antarctica, at least one cm from the A2 fold, and cross over the fold separating cell B1 and B2 by about a cm. It should not touch North America or Africa. It should be about 2 cm wide. Label it South America. 14.At the top between North America and Europe label the Arctic Ocean. 15.On both the left hand and right hand side label the Pacific Ocean. 16.Between North America, Europe, South America, and Africa, label the Atlantic Ocean. 17.In the area east of Africa, south of Asia, and northwest of Australia, label it the Indian Ocean. 18.Above Antarctica, label the Southern Ocean. 19.Label the prime meridian. 20.Label the equator.
