A fascinating, freedom fighter: The woman who stopped slavery! The wonderful; Sojourner Truth Author: Cierra McKenzie

Introducing the first African American who stopped slavery! Born in Rosendale, New York around 1797 Died in Battle Creek, Michigan on November 26, 1883. Isabella lived with her mother, father, sisters and brothers in a little cabin and worked as slaves in a little garden. Isabella and her brother, Peter, went through some challenging things in life.

A difficult childhood! Isabella and her brother Peter got sold to an auction in 1806. One man sold Peter for $100 and another man named John Neely bought Isabella for $100 too. In 1810, Isabella got traded again to another man named John Dumont, but when Isabella was went Dumont, he made her marry one of his slaves named Thomas that worked on the farm too also when they were married they had five children. Isabella was influenced by her childhood because she didn`t cry or wine she stood up for what was right and was very brave.

Sojourner`s Best Achievements! One of Isabella`s achievements is that she freed slavery and published a book in 1850 fighting to end slavery so people could have their own freedom and so that children could go back to their original families from being slaves. Another achievement is that traveled to a lot of different times and spoke about women`s rights and then she went to the white house and spoke to the president which was Abraham Lincoln at that point of time.

How Sojourner inspired me… I thought that Sojourner was brave because she traveled all over the world to different places to speak about women`s rights and she went to Abraham Lincoln and sat down with him and talked about her problems. I chose her because she was a very brave person and if she was still alive and I ever met her I would sit down with her and talk about my problems because I want to be brave like her. Sojourner inspired me because when I read a book about her she made all my shyness go away and she made stand up for my own potential and stand up for what was right and to always be brave.
