Activator Sketch the graph and draw the molecular motion of the water molecules for each section of the graph. I II III IVV

Behavior of Gases SPS2b. Relate temperature, pressure, and volume of gases to the behavior of gases.

What is pressure? A measure of the force applied over a unit area

Pressure Examples Tire (pounds per square inch, (psi)) Inflating a football Car tire pressure decreases when it is cold outside

Pressure vs. Volume Lab Materials: 1 Syringe, 4 textbooks Groups: 3 students maximum Start with 40 cm 3 for the volume of air in the syringe. Gently place one book on top and help stabilize the book with your fingertips. Read the syringe and record your information. Continue this process for a total of four books.

Pressure vs. Volume Lab Lab Summary: Write the questions and answer What affect does pressure have on the volume of a gas? Compare and contrast the molecular motion of the gas particles with 0 books and 4 books. Turn in your lab for today.

Activator 9/5/2014 Describe what you saw in the lab that you did yesterday.

Pressure vs. Temperature Lab Materials: 1 syringe, 1 thermometer, hot water and ice Start with 35 mL of air in the syringe. Place the syringe and thermometer in the water. Wait two minutes and record the volume. Place ice in the water to drop the temperature approximately 10°C, record the volume in the syringe. Continue until you get to 0°C

Pressure vs. Temperature Lab Write the question and answer 1.What happens to the pressure of a gas as temperature decreases? 2.What happens to the pressure of a gas as temperature increases? 3.Compare and contrast the molecular motion of the gas particles between a high temperature and low temperature. Turn in your completed labs.
