8 Assignment-Flow Chart for Checks and Balances Using your notes design a flow chart that shows the checks and balances system for our government Design is your choice, as is creativity MUST clearly be able to see each branches’ powers (different colors, etc) For every power you include there MUST be a check, minimum 2 powers per branch

11 Article IV Section 1-States must honor the laws, records, and court decisions of other states Section 2-Rights of citizens Section 3-Admission of new states and congressional authority in new territory Section 4-Protection of the states and citizens thereof by the US government

12 Article VArticle VI Amendments (changes) to the Constitution can be made with a 2/3 vote in both houses of Congress OR 2/3 of the state legislatures request, with ratification of the amendment by ¾ of the states The US government is supreme authority; federal law will override state law Aka the “supremacy clause”

14 The Constitution-September 17, 1787 “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” In one paragraph the writers of the Constitution set out their plan for government.
