1. WASHINGTON COUNTY TEACHER AND CANDIDATE FOR PRINCIPAL Sarah Mercer

2. Something About Me I grew up in Sanford, Fl and left the beach to attend college in the mountains. After graduating from Mars Hill College I married Ben Mercer and moved to Abingdon. We have two sons, Tyler and Noah. We love to be outside. We also attend church in Meadowview, where I am the assistant director of children’s ministries. My latest adventure was receiving my Masters in Educational Leadership from Radford University.

3. Professionally I have worked in the Washington County School system for 8 years. I started with the DREAMS afterschool program at High Point Elementary School and also substituted during this first year. I was then hired as a kindergarten teacher at Rhea Valley Elementary School. I stayed in kindergarten for 3 years and then moved to first grade, where I am currently teaching.

4. My Professional Views A principal must lead with confidence and have specific long and short term goal in mind to implement. (ISLLC 1) A principal must listen to the learning community in order to promote a happy and successful environment. (ISLLC 1) A principal must work with the community to get an understanding of what is expected of the school. This will also help the principal understand the culture of the students and community. (ISLLC 4 and 6) A principal must integrate the newest technologies and resources to ensure that the students will be ready when they enter the workforce. (ISLLC 2)

5. My Vision Statement It is my vision that students in my school will be prepared both academically and socially for their future when they leave. I will endeavor to make this happen by  Creating a safe comfortable environment where everyone shows and feels respect.  Creating a learning environment where students are engaged and actively involved in their learning.  Creating opportunities for students to have hands on experiences with the newest technology available.  Create ample opportunities for parental involvement through school functions both during and after school.

6. My Goals I love working and living in Washington County. This school system truly strives to give their students the best education in the world. If I become a principal in Washington County, I will do my best to continue making a difference in the lives of these students and ensuring they receive the best education in the world. I will do this by staying true to my vision statement.
