2 A free talk How many of you want to learn English? Can you tell me why you want to learn it?

3 In our class, many students want to learn English. However, they each have different reasons for this. For example, some say they learn it because they like learning language; some say being fluent in English has become a must for young people to get a well-paid job; while others say they learn it just because of the college entrance examination. Point out the linking words in the passage.

4 What’s the function of linking words?

5 Links are needed between sentences to connect the ideas of the sentences to each other. Without these links, it is easy for readers to get confused. These links help readers work out what is going to happen next in a text.

6  Time sequence words ( 顺序关联词 )  cause and effect words( 因果关联词 )  contrasting words ( 对照关联词 )  addition words.( 附加关联词 ) Read point1-4 on page 8 carefully and summarize the four common types of links between sentences.

10 Addition words: what’s more, in addition, besides, also, furthermore, too, moreover, on top of, as well as, additionally,also, above all…… Group work
