Wurster Hall MBCx Project October 30th, 2008

2 Project Overview Project Goals Project Objectives Identify Low Cost/No Cost Measures Identify Retrofit Opportunities Install Additional Metering for M&V and Persistence

3 Wurster Hall Architectural Building Library, Studios, Offices, Workshops Approximately 220,000 Sqft No Mechanical Cooling Constant Volume HVAC Steam to Hot Water Pre and Reheat

4 Typical Floor Plan

5 Baseline Energy Use Electric

6 Baseline Energy Use Steam Steam use is currently not trended for Wurster Hall QuEST has designed two steam meters for installation and connection to the Obvius System QuEST has installed Hot Water Flow Meters and temperature sensors to calculate the steam energy use until the Steam Meters are installed.

7 Systems - Steam There are 2 steam sources for Wurster. Each has a steam to hot water HX.

8 Systems - AHU AHU 1 – VFD & IGV Serves South Tower

9 Systems - AHU AHU 1 Exhaust– VFD or IGV Serves South Tower: Foundry, Sawdust, and Zone

10 Systems - AHU AHU 2 - IGV Serves North Tower Floors 2-4

11 Systems - AHU AHU 3 – IGV Serves North Tower Floors 4-9

12 Systems - AHU AHU 4 – Constant Speed Serves North East Tower zones 4-9

13 Findings Ventilation Reduction IGV Removal VFD Retrofit Scheduling Economizers Control Strategy Changes Curtailment Week Studio Lighting

14 Curtailment Week Thursday aggressive

15 Curtailment Week Rough Savings Estimates – Extrapolated Annually

16 IGV Removal & VFD Retrofit AHU-1 has both IGV and VFD on both supply fans and Exhaust Remove IGV, Reduce VFD speed to achieve same flow using less energy. Further reduce flow to ventilation requirement

17 Scheduling 6am to Mid-night is excessive for HVAC EF 65, EF66, EF71, SF47 (broken VFD) run 24/7 EF65 and EF65 exhaust Sawdust and Foundry, respectively. May have to add control linked to occupancy and equipment.

18 Economizers Economizers throughout the building are either partially or fully non-operational These are simple mechanical fixes

19 Control Strategy Wurster is an efficiently designed building with a huge thermal mass, window shading, etc. Currently the VFD on AHU ramp up with OA temp Change control to reduce speed with increasing OAT.
