Financial Aid On Page 1 Look for the EFC (expected family contribution) field. The amount of yearly college costs that your family is expected to cover based on your economic situation. If the EFC field is BLANK, there are mistakes or missing information on your FAFSA Your FAFSA needs corrections before it can be processed.

Left blank fields Answer all questions shown on the FAFSA Listed an incorrect social security number Have your social security card on hand and compare it to the information entered on the FAFSA Did not use full legal name Enter your name as it appears on your social security card. Reporting adjusted gross income (AGI) as total income from work Refer to the appropriate line number on your federal tax return: 1040- line 37; 1040A- line 21; 1040EZ- line 4 Reporting income tax paid Refer to the appropriate line number on your federal tax return. 1040- line 55; 1040A- line 35; 1040EZ- line 11 Incorrectly filed income tax status as head of household Review tax return filing status requirements, submit an amended return if necessary.

Listing marital status incorrectly Enter the marital status as of the date you signed the FAFSA Student not included in number in college Always count yourself and others (expect parents) attending college at least half-time and in a program leading to a degree/certificate Have not registered with Selective Service Males must register with Selective Service College(s) were not listed Review the schools listed on your summary page and make any appropriate changes Forgetting to sign and date the FAFSA Be sure to use your PIN to electronically sign the FAFSA or print, sign, & mail a signature page
