1 Questions???? How much do you pay of the original price if you get 25% off? 75% of the original price “75% of n” means .75 x n For fractions, decimals, and percents, the word “of” means “multiply”; 25% of 20 means… .25 X 20 or ¼ x 20 What happened to the percentage when it was multiplied? The percentage changed to a decimal/ fraction

2 Fractions, Decimals, Percents
Rational numbers: numbers that can be written in fraction form

3 How do we get from one form to another?
Percent to decimal 50% = .50 28% = .28 33% = .33 4.6% = .046 What’s happening? Move decimal two places left. Decimal to percent .78 = 78% 3.1 = 310% .057= 5.7% What’s happening? Move decimal two places right? {hint move to the % symbol}

4 How do we get from one form to another?
Fraction to decimal 2/5 = .4 7/9 = .777… ¼= .25 3/8 = .375 Divide denominator into numerator Decimal to fraction .57= 57/100 .2 = 1/5 Last place value after decimal determines denominator; the decimal number determines the numerator; simplify if possible

5 How do we get from one form to another?
Percent to fraction 33% = 33/100 48% = 48/100= 12/25 20% = 20/100= 1/5 What’s happening? Percents means out of 100; therefore 100 is the denominator and the percent number is the numerator. Simplify if possible Fraction to percent 2/5 = 40% 1/10 = 10% 3/20 = 15% What’s happening? If possible make an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100. The numerator will be the percent. Or change to a decimal and turn decimal to percent.

6 History Class Aaron received 320 points out of a possible 400 points in his History class. What percent of the possible points did Aaron receive? How many more points did he need to receive an A in History?
