Be sure to have your parent/guardian sign it!

Returning the paper registration form is REQUIRED.
You might not get the elective classes you want if you do not turn in your paper registration form.

Our school website has a course description book with class descriptions available. This is where you can get more information about all of the 8th grade required and elective courses.

Use the following procedure to request classes for next year.
1. On the start page, click Class Registration from the navigation menu. The class Registration page
appears
Note: 8th grade Required Classes are listed and requests will be submitted when you have made all other selections. Any changes in math placement or honor courses will be made by the registrar.
2. Next click the pencil icons for your Elective Choices. An Elective Choice popup window will appear.
Place a check in the box on left side next to the elective choice you want to make. Then click okay.
Note: If you are selecting a yearlong class, you will need to select (for example) Choir 8A as your 1st elective choice and Choir 8B as your 2nd elective choice.
3. A green checkmark appears in the area for which you selected courses. You will select one elective at
a time.
4. Repeat the steps until you have made a total of 4 elective choices, 2 alternative elective choices and
the health selection.
5. Click Submit. The Course Requests page appears.
6. You have finished the online process. Return the Pre-Registration form to your World Civ teacher
as soon as possible.

9. English Honors 8 . . . differences from English 8
At this time, the same novels are read in Honors English and English 8.
However, in Honors English, ALL reading is all done at home with the teacher  providing checkpoints as to when students should be at a certain page/chapter in the book.
Class time is used for discussion and projects.
More in-depth questioning and more writing
More use of computer-based programs
More project-based
Students create/teach a lesson to the class
Students are required to enter a writing contest (outside of school) with an original piece of writing that they did not create at school
Lots of group and self-directed work
Debate/Socratic circle is used in class

14. Choosing Alternatives for Electives
Space may NOT BE AVAILABLE in one or more of your elective choices. So, YOU MUST ALSO CHOOSE TWO ALTERNATIVE ELECTIVES. If you DO NOT choose alternatives and the elective you want is full, ELECTIVES WILL BE CHOSEN FOR YOU.

15. Concert Band 8
YEAR-LONG COURSE – fee required This course is designed for students with two years of successful prior band experience. Students are expected to practice at home (150 minutes/week) and provide their own instrument and method book. Students are required to participate in evening concerts and the spring district Middle School Band Festival.

16. Orchestra 7/8
YEAR-LONG COURSE – fee required This class is designed for students with a minimum of one year playing experience with violin, viola, cello, or string bass. Students are expected to practice at home (150 minutes/week) and provide their own instrument and method book. Students are required to participate in evening concerts and the spring district Middle School Orchestra Festival.

17. Choir 8
YEAR-LONG COURSE – fee required This class gives students an introduction and foundation in singing in two and three part music of various styles. The class will emphasis enjoyment of singing. Participation in evening concerts and the spring district Middle School Music Festival is required.

18. Spanish I
YEAR-LONG COURSE This course provides students with the fundamental skills of Spanish. An emphasis is placed on comprehension, speaking, reading, writing, and culture. Credits and grades earned in Spanish are entered on official high school transcripts and count towards official high school GPAs.

19. Beginning Art
SEMESTER COURSE – fee required Students will explore the fundamentals of drawing, painting, perspective, crafts, art history, and careers in art. This course is required prior to taking 8th grade classes – Drawing/Painting and Pottery/Sculpture.

20. Drawing and Painting
SEMESTER COURSE – fee required Prerequisite: Beginning Art Students will learn basic drawing and painting as well as explore a variety of media, art history, and careers in art.

21. Pottery and Sculpture
SEMESTER COURSE – fee required Prerequisite: Beginning Art Students will learn basic clay hand techniques and explore a variety of additional sculpture media, art history, and careers in art.

22. Drama/Communications
SEMESTER COURSE – fee required Students will explore drama through performance, communication, criticism, etc. Presentations may include: pantomime, oral interpretations, Reader’s Theatre, mini plays, radio theater speeches, and puppetry. This course is required prior to taking Advanced Drama and Communications.

23. Advanced Drama and Communications
SEMESTER COURSE – fee required Prerequisite: Drama/Communications This class is the introductory course to basic acting techniques and terminology. Students will develop voice, create a character, evaluate a play, and perform in scenes. Students also learn about theater history, criticism, and vocational opportunities.

24. GTT Pre-Engineering Technology 8
SEMESTER COURSE – fee required Projects will be designed and fabricated using STEM criteria. Projects incorporate the use of modeling software and robotics. Problem solving and understanding the influences of technology are incorporated into learning. Students investigate the impact of energy on their lives and the environment.

26. Publications
SEMESTER COURSE Students who enjoy writing and being creative enjoy this class. Writing happens each day in class. Students learn the basic forms of journalistic writing: news, features, editorials, and headlines. Students should be able to work and write independently as well as with a partner, be responsible, and be able to meet deadlines. Students will produce a school newspaper and other student works.

27. Applied Keyboarding
SEMESTER COURSE Students will learn proper technique, hand position, key strokes, and touch control. Basic formatting of documents will be taught. Pre-Requisite: Recommendation of keyboarding instructor or counselor. Great for students who type below 20 wpm with less than 6 errors and for new students.

28. Computer Explorations I
SEMESTER COURSE Prerequisite: Keyboarding Students will learn word processing, editing, changing layouts, proofing, columns and tabs, search and replace, database, and spreadsheets. This course is required prior to taking Computer Explorations II.

29. Computer Explorations II
SEMESTER COURSE Prerequisite: Computer Explorations I Students will work with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, web page design. Digital cameras, scanners, and other technology are introduced. Also studied: Internet safety, research strategies, and copyright laws.

32. Peer Tutors and Assistants
Semester Courses Peer Tutoring and Assistant (counseling, library, office, and teacher) Students may not choose to be an assistant during online preregistration. You must choose your 4 electives and 2 alternate electives that do NOT include being an assistant. If you would like to be an assistant AND you complete and turn in a form, you may have the opportunity to be chosen as an assistant after online registration is finished.

SEMESTER COURSE Peer Tutors assist students with special needs in one-on-one situations. Students must be kind and caring, empathetic, and willing to take directions. Assistant form must be filled out and turned in with parent signature. Needed: teacher recommendation

You will choose electives by numbering your choices. 1 = your 1st choice, 2 = 2nd choice You may choose an elective that is FULL and space is NOT AVAILABLE. So, you must make alternative elective choices. Number some extra choices. If you do not choose any alternative electives and space is unavailable, electives will be chosen for you.
