Submit On Time Technical Issue-  Timing - Do not wait until the last 3 – 5 hours before deadline (e.g. 9:00 pm – 12:00 am for a 12:00 midnight closing time) especially large corporations. - High traffic will jam the system at peak hours. - Submit one – two days ahead. years back in HK when companies started using online system, traffic jam took place in some large scale recruitment.

Allow Yourself Time to Complete Spare sufficient time for completion Some forms could take up to two hours to complete Find somewhere quiet to fill it out Note whether the online system allows you to draft, save, amend and submit until you are satisfied with your answer – e.g. Standard Chartered Bank Some systems DO NOT allow you to save for amendment. Avoid the mistake : Your first draft is your final draft!

7. Attach Your CV Some require attachment of CV or paste it into application Make sure your CV holds on and maintain in a simple format for these electronic conversion / attachments. Fancy design, italics, bolds may be changed in the process. Make trial sending test (blind test conversion to see the change / no change), if you can Keep resume format simple is always “SAFE”.

10. Follow Up If you do not get an electronic confirmation, follow-up your electronic application with a personal to the recruiter (try to identify the name and , if not, send to the recruitment manager stating briefly your name, university, degree, contact and date of submission.)

10. Follow Up (cont.) If job posting or notice does not say “No phone calls” make a follow up phone call, e.g. 1 to 2 week afterwards just to leave message (as above). You may get a “standard answer” or the recruiting manager could make a note and ensure your information is in the system. Recruitment Managers are busy during peak season. You may reach them at 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. or even later.

One of them was a lack of time for meetings due to the heavy workload of study. I assisted the team by coordinating meetings, finding free timeslots from schedules, building online discussion platform by opening a group account and newsgroup, preparing readings and summarizing findings for meetings to run efficiently and effectively. Afterwards, we could work at home without finding timeslots to meet up. Solution

The second challenge was that we lacked experience in business analysis. We failed to identify the direction of the research. We suggested picking up large companies and analyzing them, summarizing history and forecasting future trend or hot topics of the industry such as avian flu drugs, Tamiflu. The supervisor kept on disapproving our proposed directions. Afterwards, I was enlightened by the high concern of the new diabetic medical inhaler and realized that focus should be put on finding out what are growth factors. We came into consensus that drugs which deal with life-threatening diseases (AIDS, cancer, diabetes) provide long term momentum for companies to grow. The supervisor approved the direction. Finally, the presentation of the group project gained commendation from the supervisor, Mr. ________, Senior Vice President of Individual Investor Group of ______________. I always enjoy teamwork as it pools wisdom from different kinds of people; this helps arrive a better decision.
