1 Do the Tudors deserve their own Religious Roller coaster?
Starter: What makes a great roller coaster? Create a list of features which all ‘great’ roller coasters contain. Do the Tudors deserve their own Religious Roller coaster? Objectives: To recall the main differences between Tudor monarch religious beliefs. To consider which changes were the most significant.

2 Background During the Tudor era there were major changes in religion;
back and forth... Each new monarch made changes - one year England would be Protestant, the next year Catholic. Some historians now think that for the normal people there weren't that many changes - but those who believed really strongly in their religion, such as Puritans (strong Protestants) and strong Catholics, there were serious arguments. One way to remember the changes is to imagine a roller coaster...

3 Task 1: Religious features
Henry VIII Very Catholic Protestant Very Protestant Edward VI Priests were not allowed to marry. Protestants were persecuted. Allowed priests to marry and destroyed church decorations. Henry’s daughter (by Catherine of Aragon)- strongly Catholic. Mary Made himself head of the church and introduced the bible in English. Called herself ‘Governor’ instead of head of church and introduced a new prayer book (pleasing Catholics). Pope was made Head of the Church again, church services in Latin. Elizabeth I Henry’s daughter (by Anne Boleyn)- tried to find a balance Changed church services back to English and allowed priests to marry again (pleasing protestants).  Strongly Protestant. Introduced a new prayer book, held church services in English. Changed from Catholic to Protestant. Fair Balance Did not change church services. Step 1: Read through each statement. Step 2: Match each statement to the correct monarch. (Use your notes and any additional resources to help.) Use different colours! Step 3: Check your work with your partner. Be ready to discuss any differences. EXTENSION: Which monarch do you think made the most significant changes? Print out sheet and colour in different aspects.
