1 Colour and Emotions We can use colour to describe how we are feeling.
Colours can have warm and cool tones. We can choose warm and cool tones to create an atmosphere or mood in our art work. Look at the following colours and talk about how they make you feel. Is it a warm or a cool colour?

7 Mixing Colours What do you already know about mixing colours?
The Colour Wheel. Colours opposite each other are called Contrasting Colours Colours next door to each other are called Complimentary Colours We can use this to help create atmosphere in our art work. What do you already know about mixing colours? Can you name the Primary colours? Can you name the Secondary colours? What are Tertiary colours? Experiment with mixing colours using paint or chalk pastels. What have you learnt? How will this help you?

13 Circle Time: Can you name some feelings or emotions?
It can be difficult to understand how people feel. What clues have we got to help us understand how someone feels? Can we see emotion in a person’s face? Think about an emotion and describe a situation when you have experienced it. Happy Frightened  Proud Content  Anxious Nervous Angry  Sad Excited Jealous  Confused Upset   Unhappy Relaxed Calm Confident

15 Colour and Emotions Task: Pick an Emotion.
Make a colour study to describe the emotion Think about…. Which materials will you use? paint ink chalk oil pastel coloured paper wax crayon fabric pencil Which process will you choose? painting drawing printing collage mixed media Happy or Angry What do you think?

16 Display your finished work and talk about it.
Ask each other…… Can you guess which emotion the colour study is describing? Why do you think this? How can you use your finished work in another task/subject?

17 Class Task: Make a class book of emotions.
Plan What will you put in your book? How will you do this? Will you use colour in your book? Will you use pictures in your book? Will you have a book character as a link? What character/symbol could you use? Reflect Think about…… How did you plan your work? Where did you find ideas for your book? How would you describe the task to someone else? What would you change if you repeated this task? Can you think of different situations in which your book would be useful? Develop Who will read your book? Do you need to make any changes to the book? Why?
