Question # 4 What is the approximate C:H:O ratio in each of the following types of macromolecules?
3
Answers Carbohydrates
Common example of Carbohydrates is Glucose. It contains 12 Hydrogen molecules, 6 Carbon molecules and 12 Oxygen molecules. Which ends up with the ratio of 1:2:1
4
Answers Lipids Common Lipid molecules are Fatty Acids (Saturated and unsaturated). There is no definite ration for lipids, because there is not enough Oxygen molecules to give a certain answer. But the usual ratio is 1:2:0
5
Answers Proteins One of the examples of proteins is methionine. It contains 11 Hydrogen molecules, 5 Carbon, 2 Oxygen. It also has Nitrogen and Sulfur molecule. Like any other example of proteins, they don’t have a definite ratio because the components vary so much between each other.
6
Answers Nucleic Acids A good example of Nucleic Acid is Guanine. It has 4 Hydrogen molecules, 4 Nitrogen molecules, and 1 Oxygen molecule. Nucleic Acids don’t have a definite ratio as well.
7
Question # 5 What other elements are commonly associated with each of these four types of macromolecules?
