Writing When you take a test, you may be asked to write to a prompt. A prompt introduces information about a topic, and then provides instructions about a specific writing assignment. Writing Most prompts are expository or narrative. Expository prompts ask you to explain something. Narrative prompts ask you to tell a story. Writing Before you begin writing, ask yourself these questions: Is the prompt expository or narrative? What is the purpose of the writing? What is the actual assignment? Also, show, not tell by using descriptive sensory details. Movement – Stay in your seat. Participation – I know you are on-task if I see you writing quietly.
