Faculty Meeting September 18, 2008 Focus Question: How can we develop a common language around and description of effective teaching throughout NRCSD? How can this language be utilized to improve APPR goals and classroom instruction?

90-60 Classroom Performance Standards Based Curriculum Ongoing Assessment Feedback Instruction And Student Learning Regents Results Four-Year Graduation Rate How we measure proficiency?

Make It Happen Guiding Question: How can we continue to build a Professional Learning Community built upon the positive expectation that all students can achieve proficiency and many can achieve mastery? How can we attain curriculum standards and “assess for success” to ensure our ultimate goals of proficiency and mastery? What instructional strategies to we utilize to link learning and the learner?

Teacher Effectiveness “the most important factor affecting student learning is the teacher. Effective teachers appear to be effective with students of all achievement levels, regardless of the level of heterogeneity in the classrooms.” –Sanders, W. (1997) 1. Write down three words, phrases or thoughts in response to the statements above?

2. What are some benefits to a school and its professionals to have a common definition of practice? Discuss at your table. “Teaching is complex decision making process under conditions of uncertainty. It’s a thinking person’s job, and involves high levels of cognitive work.” Charlotte Danielson ©2008 M C K AY C ONSULTING, LLC
