1 Present Day Iraq By: Rachel Bievenue

2 Troop levels In ‘09 the Obama Admin. Said they were going to take troops out of Iraq, and place more in Afghanistan. 30,000 more are being deployed, and troops in Iraq will slowly decline to 35,000 – 50,000 by August 31, 2011. In March 2003, there was a n invasion and the amount of troops in iraq went from some where around 5,200 to 187,900.

3 DeBa’athification of Iraq In June of ‘03 the CPA banned the Ba’ath Party. Thousands were removed from their high end positions; teachers, doctors. Due to the New Iraqi Constitution Ba’athists are being excluded from any high political positions in hopes to create a new political system. 2005, Iraqi Shiites rioted for excluding all former members of the Ba’ath Party from future positions in the country's leadership.

4 Current Iraqi Military In ‘03 the Iraqi military was disbanded, as of now the Iraq army has 17 divisions, 56 brigades, and 185 combat battalions. Also three of the 56 brigades are not Iraqi Ground Forces, and aren’t assigned to any of the current divisions. The Ground Force is one of the most important “fighting formation” in the Iraqi army. Budget problems and the lack of Iraqi men entering boot camps, continues to create problems for the army. As of August, 2009 the army is organized as follows: -Four Regional Commands -- 13 divisions -- 105 Combat battalions
