2. Engineering Pathways— A brief history Initial meeting in 2008 at NC &T—called by Drs. Kauffmann (ECU) and Lavelle (NCSU) Attended by deans from all four of the UNC engineering schools (WCU added later) and representatives from several community colleges Agreed to work together to review and refine the Premajor in Engineering and to collaborate on course materials, delivery, and assessment

Engineering Pathways— A brief history The Building Engineering Pathways grant was secured in 2010, funded by the Golden Leaf Foundation Increase availability of engineering transfer courses by developing a collaborative delivery plan and supporting course materials Promote engineering and develop the technology workforce across the state

Engineering Pathways— A brief history NCCCS faculty worked with UNC faculty to: Reach agreement on required and transferrable courses Develop a system of course delivery across the participating community colleges Revise courses and develop course materials in key foundation courses: EGR 150, Introduction to Engineering PHY 251, 252 General Physics I and II EGR 220, Engineering Statics

How the AE came to be: “Timing is Everything” Spring 2014--sought help from the NCCCS System Office on course delivery issues, website maintenance Dr. Ralls, Dr. Morrissey, and Dr. Beddard lent support Mark Sorrells, Golden Leaf and UNC GA were supportive Structured Pathways initiative was underway (review and redesign of CAA, AA and AS degrees)

Uniform Articulation Agreement, AE to BSE Approved Feb. 2015 Promotes educational advancement opportunities for Associate in Engineering (A10500) completers and constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina in order to complete the Bachelor of Science in Engineering degrees. This Associate in Engineering to Bachelor of Science in Engineering Articulation Agreement (AE to BSE AA) is between the State Board of North Carolina Community Colleges and The University of North Carolina Board of Governors. It applies to all NC community colleges that operate the AE program and to UNC constituent institutions (ECU, NC A&T, NCSU, UNC- Charlotte and Western Carolina.)

AE to BSE Transfer Committee Authority to interpret the AE to BSE policy rests with the AE to BSE Transfer Committee (similar to the TAC) NCCCS representatives are: Charles Goodman, Pitt Community College George Hendricks, Gaston College Susan Meardon, Wake Technical Community College Sharilyn Owens, Forsyth Technical Community College Sharon Suess, Blue Ridge Community College Wesley Beddard, System Office

10. What’s next? Career and College Promise Pathway Proposed pathway has been sent to college presidents for vote (due March 1) If approved, it will be effective Fall 2016

Highlights of the CCP Pathway No guarantee of meeting entrance requirements to BSE programs Includes up to 8 Optional General Education hours for MAT 171, MAT 172 and up to 8 SHC Foreign Language Allows student to complete 34 – 50 credit hours toward the AE Utilizes UGETC courses for most of the pathway
