NOTE: The session will walk through using the IT PR Tool as an end- user, accessing the User’s Guide for more information on dropdown items, and where to go to get additional help and support.

3 IT PR Tool Update Session – 11/04/2009 Background – Information Technology (IT) purchases need to be tracked and managed to ensure that IT services are in compliance with legislative conditions set forth in public law and the instructions, guidance to Federal agencies from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), guidance from the NASA Office of the Chief Information Officer. The IFM Core Financial system has the capability to collect this information, but does not have the automation to assist users with identifying the data elements required for their PR and Credit Card entries. This PR tool will help define the required information for all IT purchases for entry into the IFM systems: SAP and P-Card. The additional IT information provided by this tool must be keyed into the short text field when the IT purchase request is initiated. This IT information will assist the Chief Information Officer (CIO) with trend analysis and preparing yearly budget submissions. The CIO can use SAP R/3 and Business Warehouse to run reports for analysis.

4 IT PR Tool Update Session – 11/04/2009 Background – The CIO is requiring all GSFC employees and contractors who make IT purchases using SAP or the P-Card Bankcard System to use the IT PR Tool. The IT PR Tool has been updated for FY10 with new portfolio and item description drop down selections. The IT PR Tool is used to derive IT numeric codes and text, which will assist the CIO in tracking and collecting metrics on the Center's IT activities as required by the Information Technology Management Reform Act (Clinger-Cohen Act). This data will also assist in the preparation of the yearly IT budget submissions. In addition, this tool will greatly reduce the number of IT PRs rejected for data errors associated with the function code and material group classification already required.
