2 ON 3A, TAPE/PASTE/STAPLE/ATTACH THE FOLLOWING CHART: Take notes on 3B as we continue through these slides on conflict. For each type of conflict, add an illustration off to the side of the chart that will help you remember the type of conflict.

3 CONFLICT In a story, conflict is the struggle between opposing forces. It can also be thought as the main problem the protagonist has to face.

4 EXTERNAL VS INTERNAL External Conflict takes place outside of the body Internal Conflict takes place inside of the body/mind.

5 CHARACTER VS. CHARACTER The struggle is between two or more characters in the story. External

6 Character vs. Nature This type of conflict pits a story's main character or characters against a natural force such as a flood, predatory animal, or disease epidemic. External

7 Character vs. Society In many stories, the protagonist battles against element of government or culture. External

8 INTERNAL Character vs. Self When a character is struggling to overcome fear, addiction, emotional damage or other crippling personal issue.

9 READ ALOUD SLAMMED BY MARLENE PEREZ Think about… What is the type of conflict? What evidence do I have to support that?

10 STATIONS -3B At each station is a scenario Read the scenario out loud with your group In your notebook under your notes (3B): Identify the conflict Provide evidence for that conflict

11 INDEPENDENT WORK IN YOUR JOURNAL- 3B Title of your book Identify the conflict Provide an explanation for that conflict
