7. Active Reading: Elements of Suspense  As we read, use your post-it notes to mark elements of suspense. Make sure to write the first few words of the quote along with the page number so you can go back and find it later.  You need you will need two examples of each choice…therefore, 6 examples total!!  Choices-  Pacing (Alliteration OR Repetition)  Dangerous Action (Dialogue, Conflict, OR Point of View)  Foreshadowing

I heard many things in hell. How, then, am I mad?” (Poe 147). This type of suspense is dangerous action. The reader meets the narrator and can see that he is unreliable. In this quote, the narrator is trying to prove to the reader that he is not mad.
