2 Unitary Government 0 Central (national) government has all the power 0 state and local governments are controlled by the national. 0 Central gov. is must stronger than state and local. 0 Examples: United Kingdom, France, Sweden.

3 Confederation 0 States are independent and have control over their citizens and territory. 0 National gov. only has control over common concerns and areas. 0 States can withdraw at any time. 0 Examples: Articles of Confederations and Switzerland.

4 Federal System 0 The people hold the power – they have authority over the government. 0 The people are sovereign (have the highest authority) 0 The Framers had to decide how the people would delegate (give/share) their powers to the government. 0 Created the concept of federalism.

5 Federalism 0 The Practice of dividing and sharing powers of government between the central and regional governments. 0 Some powers given to the national gov. and some to the state gov.
