China: 3rd largest country, next to Russia and Canada China & Us close in size China: 3,691,500 sq. miles, US 3,678,900 sq. miles Most populated country in the world. China 26% live in urban areas US 75% urban areas

4 China & the U.S. are close in size, however, the population of China is much larger than the U.S.

5 China’s population exceeds the population of all these countries combined populations EUROPE, SOUTH AMERICA, JAPAN, and the UNITED STATES

1938: In an attempt to halt the Japanese invasion, the Chinese diverted the Huang He south, flooding more than 20,000 sq miles, killing 900,000 people; it was returned to its present course in 1947. 1998 Flood… Killed 3,656 people. 14 million people became homeless, 5 million homes destroyed, 12 million homes damaged, $20 BILLION in damages!
