1 Warm-Up Confused about using who or whom? Try this. Rewrite just the part of the sentence using who or whom. Instead of who, use he. Instead of whom, use him. If him sounds better, use whom. That is the boy who is moving to Ohio. He is moving or him is moving? Since he sounds better, let’s use who.

2 Warm-Up A pronoun is always followed by a noun or pronoun called the object of the preposition. Sarah found Daisy’s books in her locker.

3 Warm-Up An object complement is a word that completes the meaning of the direct object. Use an object complement when the direct object doesn’t make sense by itself. My mother named my brother. Sounds Better: My mother named my brother Joel.

4 Homework: Monday to whom were you speaking Monday: Find the part of speech for each word (noun, pronoun, adjective, adverb, verb, preposition, conjunction, interjection. Insert editing marks to correct capitalization and punctuation.

5 Homework: Tuesday to whom were you speaking Tuesday: Find the sentence parts (simple subject, simple predicate, complete subject, complete predicate) and prepositional phrases.
