MOM Report Linda Coney MICE Operations Manager University of California, Riverside MICE Video Conference May 20, 2010

MOM Report-Coney2 Decay Solenoid & Target Decay Solenoid —See Mike’s talk —Good news: Cooldown started last Friday and is progressing well. —Snag today – level gauge not working – measures liquid level —Work for June shutdown: service scroll pumps Target —Working on aligning mechanical axis w/magnetic axis —Remake bearings to bore mechanical axis to match magnetic o End May —T3/T4 ready by February

May 20, 2010MOM Report-Coney3 Detectors —Luminosity Monitor o Data runs taken April 20 —Tracker o Paper in process of submission to archive. o In the last week: –Read out both Tracker1 and Tracker2 together o Need to repair 1553, get spare(s) o Need to set up trigger cable for hall o Cooldown date & extent to be determined o Then trackers made safe and stored —CKOV,TOF0, TOF1, TOF2, KL: all powered up and ready to go o Data taken for calibration of TOF and KL o Need feedback as to how successful & how much more data needed —Beam Profile Monitors o Overheated during running last weekend – not understood

May 20, 2010MOM Report-Coney4 Beam Beam Magnets —New flowmeters installed in power supplies (replaced repeatedly faulty originals) —Slew rate control of magnet ramp implemented o Much easier for Operations & safer for electrical infrastructure o Unwanted new feature: –auto reset and reramp upon magnet trip –prevents understanding of source of trip –Under investigation —Sometimes D2 control says “OFF” when actually “ON” —Flow rate improved for most magnets to match manufacturer spec —Magnet polarity labeling scheme from Henry adopted (MICE note) Proton absorber —Probably need extra ~100mm plastic for 240 Mev/c protons o Will it fit? Investigate during June shutdown —Some stick during operation —Need webcam to verify configuration from MLCR

May 20, 2010MOM Report-Coney5 MICE Hall & MLCR Hall work: —PPS electrical system installation should be finished in 2 weeks —Jobs for short shutdown planned: ???? MLCR —Notify MOM if equipment not working – some network ports shut down by RAL w/o notification —Remote readout of neutron monitor not always auto-update —New ssh bastion making progress o Connected up, Malcolm working with PPD computing to debug o Next step setting up user accounts…work in progress

May 20, 2010MOM Report-Coney6 Other MOM daily walkthrough form was updated Controlled access shutdown procedure written To Do: —Does the FNAL BPM need startup/shutdown manual? —Possible BLM signal from ISIS o Already have BLM8 – need implement in Target DAQ o New possibility for more information – MOM investigate —All manuals on MICO page need date and version number o Cannot tell if subtle changes or if match hardcopies in MLCR o Update hardcopies to latest version —Write Troubleshooting document —Analysis machine

May 20, 2010MOM Report-Coney7 April/May Run Summary April 23-25: —300 MeV/c pi+ beam for TOF calibration – 10k pulses, Runs 1558-1580 —300 MeV/c e+ beam TOF calibration – 1000 pulses, Good Runs 1590-1591 April 30-May1: —Proton absorber study May 8: —10k pulses with e+,  + beam for KL Calibration May 14/15/16: —May 14 – 300 MeV/c e+ beam KL Calibration - ?pulses, ?Runs —May 15 – proton absorber study 140 MeV/c, etc… —May 16 – no running, ISIS down
