6 Communication activities Brussels meeting CERN Council Use opportunity to interact with S&T opinion leaders and decision makers Build appreciation for particle physics, its beneficial impact on society, and the value of international collaboration in science

7 Press conference Brussels In local press club, 11:00 – 11:45 on 29 May CERN represented by President of Council, Director General and Scientific Secretary European Commission represented by Director General for Research and Innovation Media attendance low For any future event: press conference only advisable if at Commission’s media centre.

8 Working lunch Parliament In European Parliament, on 29 May CERN represented by members of the CERN Council and CERN management Key members of relevant parliamentary committees attended Lively and constructive discussion

11 Meeting with competitiveness council With European Competitiveness Council, on 30 May CERN represented by members of CERN Council and CERN Management Full Competitiveness Council present Competitiveness Council very interested in the DG’s presentation Many one-on-one discussions afterwards This was a very important and very useful event “CERN… Global Effort, Global Success, but with a European Flavour” (quote from DG’s presentation)

13 The brochure Input from CERN, European Commission, and via EPPCN from institutes and universities in Member States “the CERN laboratory …has pushed forward the limits of technology, delivering innovation and benefits to society in myriad ways.…” 1000 copies of brochure distributed, 100 each of country sheets
