Chesapeake Bay Research BY: Natasha Sambaya

Why is it important to have a variety of living things in the bay? The Blue crab is important to the bay because they are a part of the crab speacies. The Widgen grass is important to the bay because it produces oxygen for animals. The Lined seahorse is important to the bay because they can be used for medicine. My research will show that Blue crabs, widgen grass, and lined seahorses are important.

Blue Crabs They are the most well-known creatures in the bay. Blue crabs have an important cray species. There is a whole laguage developed about them. They go through life stages from zeoa, to megelops, to the immature crabs. There are over 459,000,000 blue crabs in the bay.

Widgeon Grass They are one of the most common bay grasses. Widgeon grass has gasses and nutrients that can easily pass from the plant to the water and vice versa. Widgeon grass produces oxygen for animals to survive. There is a duck called widgeon, so that’s where it gets it’s name.

Lined Sea Horse They are really fish. Lined sea horses are used for special medicine. They look like different animals put together like horses, lizards, and dinosaurs. Lined sea horses can camouflage from predators. They also lay their eggs every season, and the male lined sea horse watches over them.

Conclusion In conclusion I learned that these three animals have a special gift on how they make the bay important in many ways. Like blue crabs have an important cray species. And widgeon grass produces oxygen for animals, and lined sea horses are used for medicine. So in conclusion, these animals have a special gift.
