Holy and Reverend is His Name Psalm 111:9 I.God Demands Respect II.Man Demonstrates Respect

God Demands Respect Ps. 111:9 He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever: Holy and Reverend is His name.

1 Holy “holy”—sacred, separated, from the idea of ceremonial cleansing –31 times— “the Holy One of Israel” –Leviticus—“Be ye holy, for I am holy”

2 Reverend “reverend”—Fear, morally to revere, to respect utmost, to cause astonishment – Gen. 3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. – Gen. 18:15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh – Gen. 19:30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar

Consider those who did not respect God: Korah (Num. 16)—swallowed by the earth Uzzah (2 Sam. 6)—dropped dead Nadab and Abihu (Lev. 10)—consumed by fire from heaven

Man Demonstrates Respect 1 By our worship Jn. 4:23-24 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Man Demonstrates Respect 1 By our worship We must recognize: –The proper object of worship The Father—the object (Jn. 4:23-24) The Son—the way (Jn. 14:6) The Holy Spirit—the teacher (Jn. 16:13) –The proper method for worship (Col. 3:17)

Man Demonstrates Respect 1 By our worship Reverence during worship - Prayer - Lord’s Supper - Singing to God - Preaching of His Word

Man Demonstrates Respect 2 By our speech Ex. 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that takes His name in vain. –The Jews of OT times would not use the name of God. –Instead, they used “Adonoy” (Lord)

Man Demonstrates Respect 2 By our speech Back when God was a name I used in vain to get a point across when I got ticked off Lord I’m learning so much more than back when I knew it all —Back when I knew it all Montgomery Gentry

Man Demonstrates Respect 2 By our speech Tit. 2:7-8 in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. Matt. 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Man Demonstrates Respect 3 By our life Lev. 20:26 And you shall be holy to Me, for I the LORD am holy, and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be Mine. I Pet. 1:15-16 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, "BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY."
