2 WHAT ARE VITAMINS & MINERALS?  Needed in the body for growth and to stay healthy  Many different types of vitamins and minerals  Found in fruits and vegetables

3 VITAMIN A  Vitamin A:  Protects your eyes and skin  Helps you see at night  Helps keep you from getting infections  Found in:  Red and Orange fruits and vegetables  Dark green vegetables WHAT OTHER KINDS OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES HAVE VITAMIN A?

4 VITAMIN C  Vitamin C:  Helps your body heal cuts and bruises  Keeps your gums and teeth healthy  Found in:  Many fruits, especially citrus fruits  Some vegetables like tomatoes, bell peppers, potatoes and broccoli WHAT OTHER KINDS OF FRUITS HAVE VITAMIN C?

5 VITAMIN D  Helps the body have strong bones  Absorbed from the sun  15-20 minutes without sunblock  Added in:  Milk and some dairy products  Added into cereals

6 B VITAMINS  Many different kinds!  Helps your body use energy  Found in:  Chicken, Fish and other protein foods  Beans, Peas,  Added to:  Cereals and grains

7 MINERALS  Potassium:  Keeps your muscles and nervous system working right. Helps with blood flow through your body  Found in: bananas, potatoes, beans, cantaloupe, spinach  Calcium:  Helps build strong bones and teeth  Found in: Milk, yogurt, cheese, and added in some orange juices  Iron:  Helps you have healthy blood and carries oxygen to the rest of your body  Found in: turkey, chicken, beef, fish, beans, and added to some grains and cereals.
