Snowball Microphone Why use a Snowball Microphone? It has a built in screen to help lessen the crispness of the p’s and s’s that you say when you are recording It has several settings based on the loudness of the recording 1- normal voice 2- loud music or vocals that may distort the audio 3- many voices It is plug and play. Your computer will automatically recognize it when you plug in the USB cable.

Stick Microphone Why use a Stick Microphone? It is easy to transport since it folds up There is no separate USB cable It is plug and play. Your computer will automatically recognize it when you plug in the USB cable.

Recording into your Presentation The GCF Learnfree web site has a great tutorial for how to add audio into your Powerpoint presentation. There is a video, directions, and also a practice file that you can download to work on. Access the tutorial here: http://www.gcflearnfree.org/powerpoint2013/22

Higher Quality Audio For a higher quality audio file, consider using a program like Audacity for the PC or Mac, or Garageband for the Mac With these programs you can modify the audio before importing it into the presentation. In this example I used the Effects menu and chose Amplify to make the recording a little bit louder. Notice that the background noise is also a little louder

Checking the size of your Presentation One thing to consider when recording into the presentation is the size of the final PPT file. If it is too large, students will not be able to easily download it from their computers. Try to keep the file under 300 MBs. Right click on the file, and go to Properties to see the size of the file.

Compressing All Media You can choose to compress all media in your presentation. Go to File, Info Click Compress Media Let PPT do the work for you. Compressing this file changed it from 1.07 MBs to 790 KBs, about two-thirds of the original size.

Creating a Zipped File You could also compress your file by exporting it as a zipped file Right click on the file you want to zip Click Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder Zipping this file reduced it from 790 KBs to 660 KBs
