Unit G7 Advise and consult with clients © Pearson Education 2009 Printing and photocopying permitted G7 Advise and consult with clients Face shapes

Unit G7 Advise and consult with clients © Pearson Education 2009 Printing and photocopying permitted Face shapes Round  The face shape is usually short and broad with full cheeks and round contours.  The width at the top of the head should be provided with height from the hair, which should be worn close to the sides.

Unit G7 Advise and consult with clients © Pearson Education 2009 Printing and photocopying permitted Face shapes Oval  This face shape and bone structure is considered to be the ideal face shape.  The face tapers from a slightly wider forehead.  Ideal for any hairstyle.

Unit G7 Advise and consult with clients © Pearson Education 2009 Printing and photocopying permitted Face shapes Oblong  This face shape is narrow.  Width is needed to shorten the face length.  A fringe would be suitable with short hair.  Asymmetric (unbalanced) styles also suit this face shape.

Unit G7 Advise and consult with clients © Pearson Education 2009 Printing and photocopying permitted Face shapes Square  The forehead is broad, corresponding with an angular jawline.  This face shape should have a little height without width.  The hair should taper well towards the jawline.

Unit G7 Advise and consult with clients © Pearson Education 2009 Printing and photocopying permitted Face shapes Heart-shaped  This shape usually has a wide forehead with the face tapering to a long jawline, rather like an inverted triangle.  The aim of the hairstyle is to reduce the width across the forehead, emphasising the jawline.

Unit G7 Advise and consult with clients © Pearson Education 2009 Printing and photocopying permitted Face shapes Diamond-shaped  The forehead in this bone structure is narrow with the cheekbones extremely wide tapering to a narrow chin.  The hairstyle should aim to minimise the width across the cheekbones.  A central fringe should be worn with hair full below the cheeks but flat at the cheekbone line.

Unit G7 Advise and consult with clients © Pearson Education 2009 Printing and photocopying permitted Face shapes Pear-shaped  The forehead is narrow and the face gradually widens to the angle of the jaw, which is broad and prominent.  The hairstyle should create the impression of width across the forehead and make the jawline seem narrower.  The hair should be swept slightly off the forehead to create the illusion of width.

Unit G7 Advise and consult with clients © Pearson Education 2009 Printing and photocopying permitted Face shapes Triangular-shaped  This face shape is similar to the heart-shaped face, but not as soft.  The aim of the hairstyle is to reduce the width of the jawline by emphasising the forehead.  The hair should be worn close to the cheekbones with fullness in the jawline area.
