5 The Bastille Louis sent troops in to Paris as Estates General met Parisians looted the Bastille for weapons and destroyed the symbol of oppression. Bastille Memorial in Paris

14 ESCAPE!!! Louis went along with the Assembly Nobles encouraged an escape of the royal family to get help from Austria In disguise, they were recognized and arrested Sent back to Paris

17 Louis Suspended Following invasion, the office of king was suspended The royal family was held under house arrest With no king, France had to create a new constitution New constitution to be drafted by a National Convention

18 A King Standing Trial Louis XVI was tried by the National Convention as a traitor to the republic Found guilty and executed on January 21, 1793 Beheaded by guillotine
