1 Printing: Your printer might not print the same way our printers do, so make sure to try a couple of test prints. If things aren’t aligning quite right, experiment with the Scale to Fit Paper setting. It’s located in the Print dialog – just click Full Page Slides to get to it. And did you notice we made fold marks for you? They are really light, but if you don’t like them showing on your brochure, click View, Slide Master, and delete them before you print. Customizing the Content: The placeholders in this brochure are formatted for you. If you want to add or remove bullet points from text, just click the Bullets button on the Home tab. If you need more placeholders for titles, subtitles or body text, just make a copy of what you need and drag it into place. PowerPoint’s Smart Guides will help you align it with everything else. Want to use your own pictures instead of ours? No problem! Just click a picture, press the Delete key, then click the icon to add your picture. If you replace a photo with your own and it’s not a flawless fit for the space, you can crop it to fit in almost no time. Just select the picture and then, on the Picture tools Format tab, in the Size group, click Crop. Maintaining Effective Means of Communication It is important for both teachers and teacher aides to meet together regularly. Discuss the amount of meetings needed and set a timetable, preferably set these meeting times during school time as it helps build a professional relationship. Using both emails and communication books can help aide your discussion. Within these meeting times you can use the following focus points: Discuss: Reflect and celebrate your days. Identify any conflict areas, discuss student preferences, clarify expectations, and agree on how to raise issues and how to problem solve. Also discussing whether everyone is on track to meet the goals for particular students. Plan: Discuss how planning needs to altered to support students with special educational needs and discuss how they can approach certain lessons with those students. Give Each Other Feedback: Discuss together; what is working well? What needs improvement? Giving each other feedback allows both your work to become as effective as possible. Teachers’ aides work in different ways, depending on the needs of the child they are employed to support. While they’re an important part of your child’s team it’s the teacher who remains responsible for your child’s learning and behaviour. The teacher’s aide will support them with this. A teacher's aide supports a child's classroom teacher to include a child in everyday classroom learning and activities. The role of the teacher aide is to aide the teacher – not a ‘helper’ to individual students. This can be achieved by working alongside the teacher within the classroom programme. “The overall goal is to provide relief for the teacher by supporting specific students in whatever they require which allows the teacher use their time effectively for the whole class” – Teacher Aide The Role of the Teacher Aide The Teachers Role and Responsibilities: Teachers have full responsibility for all the students within the class. This includes being responsible for the following: All students learning and behaviour All students discipline and behaviour Planning, implementation and monitoring Assessment and evaluation The whole class programme and delegating tasks The Teacher Aides Role and Responsibilities: Teacher aides work under the direction of the class teacher to support your child to make the most of every learning opportunity. This includes being responsible for the following: Support the teacher in child/children's learning and behaviour Help your child’s teacher by using strategies to manage your child’s behaviour Work with other students in the class and encourage students to play and work together and learn from each other Take over some of the class teacher’s duties so they have time to work more directly with your child Personal care such as medicines, feeding, toileting, moving about the school, using specialised equipment Playground supervision if needed
