2.  A goal must be challenging, but realistic.  A goal must be broken into steps.  A goal must be measurable.  A goal must be flexible.  A goal must be written down.  A goal must be in your control.

3. Identify the following as Realistic or Unrealistic  I will earn all A’s by the end of the school year.  I will eat 250 marshmallows for dinner tonight.  I will read 10 pages of my book before bedtime.  I will pitch at an Atlanta Braves baseball game.  I will remember to take my homework to school each day this week.

4. Realistic or Unrealistic?  I will remember to bring homework assignments home every day.  I will move up in orchestra from second violin to first violin.  I will go to a movie every day for a year.  I will eat my weight in strawberries.  I will write my assignments in my agenda daily. Practice writing realistic and unrealistic goals.

5. Goals needs to be positive. Example:  I will earn a B in science. Non-example:  I won’t get any more D’s or F’s in science class. Practice writing positive goals.

6.  A SMART goal is a much-defined mission which must incorporate the following components: specificity, measurability, achievability, relevancy, and timeliness.

7.  Specific – What exactly do I want to achieve?  Measurable – How will I know the goal is successful?  Achievable/Attainable – Is this goal reachable?  Relevant/Realistic – Is the goal in alignment with my mission at hand?  Time-Bound – When do I want to achieve my goal?

8. Example # 1 (Academic):  By the end of May 2014, I will increase my first semester math score of an 85 (B) to a minimum score of 90 (A) as measured by Fulton County Schools grading scale. Example # 2 (Personal)  By the end of May 2014, I will have saved $75.00 as required to open a bank account with USA Bank.

9.  Write 2 smart goals that are academic in nature.  Write 1 smart goal that is personal in nature.
