Duncan Campbell Scott b.1862 in Ottawa son of Methodist missionary grew up in small towns in Ontario and Quebec began work at Dept. of Indian Affairs at 17; stayed for 52 years became an accomplished pianist met Archibald Lampman in 1883 in civil service; introduced him to poetry and prose writing 1894- married an American concert pianist 1895 - only child, a daughter, born; died tragically at age 12. In 1929, Scott's wife died. Two years later he married fellow poet 30 years his junior
