4 Strategic Objectives Objective 1: Ensure that NAMSS professionals are qualified, skilled and competent in assessing healthcare providers Objective 2: Emphasize NAMSS professionals as “the gatekeepers of patient safety” and the beginning of the revenue cycle Objective 3: Establish a recognized career leadership pathway for NAMSS professionals who are assessing the competency of healthcare providers

5 Achieving our Objectives Ensure that NAMSS professionals are qualified, skilled and competent in assessing healthcare providers Develop a new competency model which includes additional skills and knowledge areas outside the traditional functions of the profession.

6 Achieving our Objectives Emphasize NAMSS professionals as “the gatekeepers of patient safety” Educate the public and stakeholders on the professions role of assuring that providers are qualified, competent, and professional to ensure patient safety, reduce risks and improve quality outcomes for the patient Become the “go-to” organization for the profession Actively educate and advocate to implement the Ideal Credentialing Solution (ICS) Promote best practice(s)

9 ICS Roundtable May 2014: Initial Roundtable Participants from Industry met in Washington, DC Discussed Best Practice Criteria and Protocol for Hospitals Presented the 13 Proposed Elements for Discussion

10 ICS Roundtable – Next Steps Information released with initial draft of the ICS Whitepaper Comments incorporated Industry was very supportive of the elements Final Draft was distributed Spring, 2015

11 Ideal Credentialing Solution - What Next? Original Ideal Credentialing Standards are focused on hospital credentialing NAMSS is currently developing a similar whitepaper for payor credentialing May, 2015: Payor Credentialing Roundtable occurred in Washington, DC

12 FSMB Interstate Licensure Compact Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) introduced and facilitated interstate licensure compact Addresses the need for license portability Provides a Nationwide Solution, Implemented by the States, without Federalizing Licensure NAMSS fundamentally supports the compact –NAMSS hosted a free webinar on the compact in March, 2015 –The recording is available for free on the NAMSS website

13 Next steps: Support the compact at your state level Grassroots efforts are important Engage your Congressmen and Senators –Encourage them to support and sign on to the compact Resources for advocacy available on NAMSS website Information on the Compact: Licenseportability.org FSMB Interstate Licensure Compact

14 Model Credentialing Application NAMSS volunteered to explore a model application –Participants at the NCF (National Credentialing Forum) felt NAMSS was appropriate to lead the project Task Force created to explore and draft –Draft document was announced at the 2015 Educational Conference & Exhibition in Seattle –Field review will be instituted and feedback solicited –Edited draft to be shared at the 2016 NCF –Draft to be presented at a Spring, 2016 Roundtable –Final draft revealed at 40 th Educational Conference in Boston (September, 2016)

19 Volunteering with NAMSS Changes to the Board Nomination/ Application process Eligibility criteria will be affected in 2016 –2016 applicants must hold dual certification to be considered for NAMSS Board positions. –This year’s applicants are not affected
