KIT – University of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg and National Research Center of the Helmholtz Association Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) | Institute for Nuclear Physics (IKP) www.kit.edu TA-EUSO simulation with Auger Offline software - Present status - Naoto SAKAKI TA-EUSO & Balloon-EUSO meeting @Rome, Nov. 8-9, 2012

Naoto SAKAKI, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Institute for Nuclear Physics (IKP) 22016/3/5 Simulation chain for EUSO TA-EUSO & Balloon-EUSO meeting @ Rome, Nov. 8-9, 2012 ESAFOffline Shower generation Light generation & propagation EUSO detector simulation Reconstruction Matthias’ “Photon Exporter” Module Now this chain works! Chain 1 Chain 2 Sample 10 Showers at 10 20 eV theta=60deg. phi=30deg. Reconst. errors: theta: -0.5 deg. phi: -0.08deg (by help of Alejandro & Thomas).

Naoto SAKAKI, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Institute for Nuclear Physics (IKP) 32016/3/5 What are available in the Auger Offline for JEM-EUSO simulation at present Tilt mode Detector position on ground and in space More detailed atmospheric models More detailed implementation of the Earth curvature LASER simulation Models are validated in the Auger experiment JEM-EUSO detector simulation Light reflection on the ground Clouds Ozone absorption Background for JEM-EUSO TA-EUSO & Balloon-EUSO meeting @ Rome, Nov. 8-9, 2012 Already available To be implemented

Naoto SAKAKI, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Institute for Nuclear Physics (IKP) 42016/3/5 TA-EUSO simulation CONEX (proton) shower Event generation and light propagation with Offline TA-EUSO telescope on ground simulation with ESAF Now TA-EUSO optics (and EUSO-Balloon optics) has been implemented into ESAF (under test, not yet public). TA-EUSO & Balloon-EUSO meeting @ Rome, Nov. 8-9, 2012 Present status

Naoto SAKAKI, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Institute for Nuclear Physics (IKP) 52016/3/5 Sample vertical showers at 10 18 eV observed by the TA-EUSO telescope at H=1.4km TA-EUSO & Balloon-EUSO meeting @ Rome, Nov. 8-9, 2012 d=5km, Hmax=2.2kmd=10km, Hmax=2.7kmd=15km, Hmax=3.4km Tel. Elevation angle: 4 deg., without background 1.4km 2.2km 3km3.8km Offline+TA-EUSO optics in ESAF

Naoto SAKAKI, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Institute for Nuclear Physics (IKP) 62016/3/5 Sample vertical showers at 10 19 eV observed by the TA-EUSO telescope at H=1.4km TA-EUSO & Balloon-EUSO meeting @ Rome, Nov. 8-9, 2012 d=5km, Hmax=2.9kmd=10km, Hmax=2.75kmd=15km, Hmax=3.2km Tel. 7 Naoto SAKAKI, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Institute for Nuclear Physics (IKP) 72016/3/5 Summary EAS events simulated with Auger Offline can be treated with the ESAF detector simulation and the ESAF reconstruction modules now. TA-EUSO and EUSO-Balloon optics simulation codes have been implemented into ESAF. It will be ready soon for mass data production. ESAF importer module for Auger Offline is planed in the near future. JEM-EUSO telescope /electronics Offline modules are also planed. TA-EUSO & Balloon-EUSO meeting @ Rome, Nov. 8-9, 2012
