Acts 2: 1-13

The 4 Spring Feasts of Israel

Feast of Pentecost or “Feast of Weeks” (Leviticus 23: 15-22) Refers to “50 th Day” after the offering of the “Firstfruits” of the Harvest

1 Corinthians 5:7 “Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.” --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 Corinthians 15:20 “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.”

Matthew 9: 36-38 36 When [Jesus] saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Pentecost celebrates God’s beautiful plan to bring in a “harvest” of people from every “field” in the world back to Himself, through repentance and faith in the true Messiah… Jesus Christ.

Ruach (Hebrew) Pneuma (Greek) Each word refers to “wind” & “spirit.” These terms are used throughout Scripture for the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2: 3-4 3 “They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”

Baptism and Filling of the Holy Spirit Being “baptized” in the Holy Spirit refers to the initial experience a believer has. Being “filled” with the Spirit, usually refers to our ongoing experiences with God.

1 Thessalonians 5:19 “Do not put out The Spirit’s fire.” ------------------------------- Like wind and fire, the Holy Spirit is most impactful in the world when He is free to move however and wherever He wishes.

Fire & Wind move! When we request the Holy Spirit to bring us comfort and blessings, but deny His desire to move freely in our lives… We ask Him to not be who He is.

“Pentecost Principles” 1.) Unity in Presence, Purpose, & Prayer 2.) The Gift of the Holy Spirit is for All 3.) Be O.K. with a Spirit-led “mess” 4.) Release any “Spirit skepticism”
