Acts 1: 4-5 4 On one occasion, while [Jesus] was eating with them, He gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Paraclete (“aid called to one’s side”) The role of the Holy Spirit on Earth, as described by Jesus in John 14 & 16. This word has been translated to mean: Comforter, Counselor, Advocate, Intercessor, Helper, Companion, & Friend The Holy Spirit is all of these…and more!

“Paraclete Passages” John 14: 16-17, 26 * He helps us, He is with us forever, Spirit of truth, He lives within believers, teaches us/reminds us of Jesus’ words -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John 16: 7-11 * He comes to convict the hearts of those in the world in regards to sin, righteousness, and judgment

In Acts 2: 1-13, the Holy Spirit arrives on the day of Pentecost (an important Jewish festival when a large crowd would be in town), filling the Christians with the Spirit’s presence & the miraculous ability to speak in other languages.

Acts 2: 3-4 3 “They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”

Not only did this miraculous event minister to the hearts of the community (as shown later), it also greatly comforted and encouraged the Church to be bold and begin preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ…as He had commanded them to in the “Great Commission.”

Acts 2:37 “When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

Acts 2: 38-39 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off —for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

Acts 2: 40-41 40 With many other words [Peter] warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

“Pentecost Principles” 1.) Conviction of Sin leading to Repentance 2.) Cleansing of Heart and Life 3.) Clarity of your Life’s Purpose in Christ 4.) Courage to fulfill that Purpose
