10 To determine the meaning of a compound word, break the word into its two recognizable base words.

11 Example: A mountain is one kind of landmark. In this sentence I see two short words that I know. Land – part of the earth Mark – a spot or something noticeable Landmark must mean a large or important feature on the earth.
