Notes 4.1 Cell Theory Page 69-71

Standards I can trace the historical development of cell theory. I can explain the three components of the cell theory.

Cell Theory Theory: The cell theory has three parts: An explanation that has been supported by many observations. All living things are composed of one or more cells. Cells are the basic unit of structure and function. Cells only come from the reproduction of existing cells.

All living things are composed of one or more cells. unicellular, multicellular, & unicellular coloniescolonies

Cells are the basic unit of structure and function The organelles inside a cell do not function outside the cell. Cells transform and use energy. Maintain homeostasis (stable internal conditions).

Cells only come from the reproduction of other cells. Two basic types of cell reproduction: Sexual Asexual Conjugation - by unicellular organisms Meiosis - creation of sex cells (sperm & eggs) Binary Fission - by unicellular organisms Mitosis - by multicellular organisms
