1 HOT TASK (A/B Students) Write a SMART fitness target for yourself in one complex sentence. Whatch this video on Giovanni Ruffin. Can you identify the components of fitness he is training?

2 Introduction to Principles of Training Time for activity on each page. Learning Objectives: Asking ourselves why people train and what they need to think about before they get going. Learning Outcome: A/A*I can explain why people train and I have made a class anagram for the principles of training. Now I know the names of the different principles of training. I know what PAR-Q means and can give examples of the types of questions asked. I can give examples of SMART targets when given a scenario of an athlete. BI can identify why people might train and I can remember the anagram that my class made up for the principles of training. With some help I can list the principles of training. I can talk about SMART targets and my training. CI can remember some of the principles of training using the class anagram. I can answer direct questions on PAR-Q and SMART targets but I find it harder to apply to scenarios of athletes including myself.

5 Class discussion Task Come up with your own class anagram to remember the principles. Write it in workbooks

6 Why would people sign up to a 6 week training program? In your work book match up the teachers with their targets in their 6 week exercise program.

9 Why would people sign up to a 6 week training program? I want to improve my body shape after a long period not being able to exercise

10 Why would people sign up to a 6 week training program? I want to improve my cardiovascular endurance so I can last 90 mins in football.

11 Why would people sign up to a 6 week training program? I am running a 10km race in 6 weeks and I want to finish in under 50 mins.

Set her some SMART targets. B Explain what is meant by SMART targets. Remember explain means show a clear understanding of a topic C If you were about to start a exercise plan what targets (SMART) would you set yourself? Are they SMART??? 5 mins

15 PAR-Q Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire Before starting any exercise program you must make sure you are ready to do so. There are several standard questions that you need to ask yourself. You will complete a PAR-Q for homework

16 Spot the odd ones out PHYSICAL ACTIVITY READINESS QUESTIONNAIRE (PAR-Q) Questions Yes No 1 Has your doctor ever said that you have a heart condition and that you should only perform physical activity recommended by a doctor? 2 Do you feel pain in your chest when you perform physical activity? 3 In the past month, have you had chest pain when you were not performing any physical activity? 4 Do you like strawberry ice cream? 5 Do you have a bone or joint problem that could be made worse by a change in your physical activity? 6 Do you have a boyfriend and would you go to a party with me? 7 Do you know of any other reason why you should not engage in physical activity? If you have answered “Yes” to one or more of the above questions, consult your physician before engaging in physical activity. Tell your physician which questions you answered “Yes” to. After a medical evaluation
