Aztecs The Aztecs were based in the Valley of Mexico. Their capital was Tenochtitlan. Their leader was called Montezuma.

Aztecs The Aztecs played Poc-ta-Poc. You could only hit it using your elbows, knees, or hips. The losers were often sacrificed. The Aztecs had a ceremony called the New Fire Ceremony. Every citizen would destroy all their utensils, quench all their fires, climb Mount Huixachtlan, and get new fire from a bonfire on the chest of a sacrificed person.

Aztecs The Aztecs were conquered by Cortez, a conquistador. They thought he was an aspect of Quetzalcoatl, a god. He captured Montezuma, and attacked Tenochtitlan. Montezuma died of his wounds in battle.

Incas The Incan capital was Cuzco. They are based in the Andes Mountains. Their leader was called the Inca, or emperor.

Incas Incan boys turned into men at age 14. They got their ears pierced and demonstrated their physical and military capabilities. Hairstyles showed what rank you were in, whether you were rich or poor.

Incas The Spanish discovered the Incas in South America, and hungry for converting to Christianity, slaughtered the Incas. The Inca fell in battle. Today, the people who live in that area still speak the official Incan language.
