1 Software Overview 1M. Ellis - CM21 - 7th June 2008  Simulation Status  Reconstruction Status  Unpacking Library  Tracker Data Format  Real Data (DATE)  GRID  External libraries  Software Schools  Next Steps

2 Simulation Status  No major changes recently to the code, focus on experimental descriptions.  Yordan is working on a model of the CKOV mirror.  Kenny is implementing the IC and FNAL beam monitors.  Adam is checking the positions and orientation of the beam line elements (now that we have the survey information). 2M. 3 Reconstruction Status  Aron is making progress on the KEK test beam analysis (combination of TOF and Tracker reconstruction).  Mark has written code to take reconstructed TOF space point information and determine the momentum of a particle for an assumed particle mass.  Work is in progress to prepare a number of schemes for determining emittance and other beam parameters from the TOF detectors alone for the summer. 3M. 5 Unpacking Library  Jean-Sebastien has produced the first version of a library that is the sole source of unpacking code for both the online monitoring and offline code in G4MICE.  Tamas and Yordan have made the necessary changes to G4MICE to allow this new library to be used. 5M. Ellis - CM21 - 7th June 2008

6 Tracker Data Format  Some code has been written to unpack the new data format from the AFEIIt boards for the tracker.  At the moment this is used as a stand-alone program, however it will be incorporated into the unpacker to allow it to be used online and offline once it has had some more thorough testing. 6M. 8 Real Data (DATE)  G4MICE can now read the data format produced by the DAQ (DATE).  Yordan has implemented the necessary code in G4MICE to take the output of the unpacking library and generate C++ classes used by G4MICE.  The DATE format unpacking can be selected by setting the data card “DataType” to “DATE”. 8M. 9 GRID  We have had several new CEs added to the MICE VO (Oxford, RHUL, ScotGRID and Glasgow).  I will try to complete installing G4MICE version 1-9-5 on these CEs in the coming week or two.  David has been making progress with GRID storage and he and Mark have been using the GRID for a number of studies (alignment and MICE step III) 9M. 11 External Libraries  I have not made much progress in the past couple of months, however Tamas has been working on the new compiler, GEANT4, etc and has a working version.  I want to complete one more System Test (to allow us to check on any effects caused by changing G4) before we make the migration. 11M. Ellis - CM21 - 7th June 2008

12 Software Schools  A combined introduction to C++ and G4MICE school was held at Fermilab in mid March.  I will try to arrange a repeat of this school at RAL in July.  By the end of the school, you will be sufficiently familiar with C++ and G4MICE to perform your own simulation and analyse data.  Please let me know if you are interested in attending.  I will also try to hold a more advanced C++ course later in the year. 12M. Ellis - CM21 - 7th June 2008

13 Next Steps  Focus continues to be on requirements for data taking and analysis as the rest of the MICE instrumentation arrives at RAL.  Key areas will be: u Database u Expanding use of the GRID u Preparations for data taking / data transfer at RAL u Use of G4MICE for analysis 13M.
