3 IB English OBJECTIVE: Students will participate in a class discussion on 1984 where they will listen attentively, speak clearly, and make complex inferences from their own understanding of the text and the ideas presented by their peers. Homework: -Continue to prepare for class discussions 1.Class discussion on 1984 TEKS 19 (B): Make complex inferences (e.g., inductive and deductive) about text and use textual evidence to support understanding. TEKS 24: Students will use comprehension skills to listen attentively to others in formal and informal settings. TEKS 25: Students speak clearly and to the point, using the conventions of language. 4 You recently covered Latin America in HOTA. How can you relate the issues/ideas from HOTA to 1984?

5 If Orwell were writing his novel today, what do you think would be some issues he would feel he needed to address? Be prepared to give details in your explanation.

6 We can do a lot of talking about how “right” Orwell was about the future, but let’s discuss where/what/how he was wrong?

7 As you know from your summer reading, no story is original. So, how are Shakespeare’s ideas in Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth similar to ideas presented in Orwell’s 1984.
