1
2-4 Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides
2
Goal: To isolate the variable How do you do this : Use Inverse Operation (Opposite) - get the variables on one side of the equation - get the numeric terms on the other side of the equation. Follow the Rules of Integers
3
1.5x + 2 = 2x + 14 2. 7x + 2 = 4x - 10
4
3. 2(5x – 1) = 3(x + 11) 4. 7(4 – x) = 3(x – 4)
5
5. 10x + 12 = 2(5x + 6) 6. 9x – 4 = -3x + 5 + 12x
6
Identity or All Numbers An equation is true for every possible value of the variable No Solution An equation has not solution if there is no value of the variable that makes the equation true.
7
7. 3(4x – 2) = -6 + 12x 8. 2x + 7 = -1(3 – 2x
