2 Conclusions and Generalizations
Conclusion or an Inference is using text evidence to figure out something in a story that isn’t directly stated. Generalization- a broad statement that is a type of conclusion that is true most of the time.

7 Inference I CAN… - Think about actions and dialogue to infer a character’s personality. - Use what I know and what the text says to infer the meaning of unfamiliar words. - Infer a character’s goals, motivations, and struggles

8 Inference-BE A DETECTIVE!!
I infer when I think about what is probably true even when the author doesn’t say it. I draw conclusions based on details!

9 Generalizations Situation Generalization
Jalapenos and chili peppers are hot Post offices, courts, and city halls are closed on the Fourth of July My mom sneezes every time she is around our cat All peppers are hot Most government buildings are closed on holidays

10 Characterization Authors use a characters actions, words (dialogue), and thoughts to give the reader an idea about the characters traits, personality and motivation (why the character does what he/she does!) Great authors make you feel as though you know the characters in the story!
