2 The Statement: The concept of manifest destiny is far from dead. In recent years it has been resurrected in the form of man’s arrogance over nature, rather than his arrogance toward his neighbors. Instead of conquering fellow beings, Americans are now conquering the very surroundings that have nurtured them for ages. Forget about the war on terrorism, it’s the war on Mother Nature that will someday kill us. Maybe you’re lucky enough to still be able to look out upon expanses of fields which have thus far avoided annihilation, but chances are, in several years they will have surrendered to the ever-growing model of the “master- planned community”. From these fields will rise the skeletons of “tract homes”, and if history is any indication, no one will give a damn.

3 Biography: Introduction to photography opened up a whole new world for me as an artist. Receiving formal instruction in art later than most, I often find my drawing skills to fall short of my artistic ideas. Photography fills in this frustrating gap by providing me with an image, while leaving the space for creativity and decision. It’s what you make with what you’re given, as well as how you choose to do it, that’s ultimately the artistic factor. My photographs tend to reflect colorful and unordinary things, but I also drift toward controversial and sentimental subjects. I strive to represent forms in a unique way, often by shooting photos at numerous angles, or working with the emotion in a scene. Participation for two consecutive years in Canyon Crest Academy’s Envision Digital/Fine arts program has greatly improved my art and taught me through much practice how to better use both the elements of art and principles of design in the creation of my work. However, there is still much I have to learn, and I intend to keep on doing so.
